2.5 Stars - I read this a few times when I was younger, and I remember really enjoying the book. Reading it now, I know that much of the information included in the book isn't all that factual, and Cleopatra comes off as arrogant and almost pretentious throughout the novel.
Its merits come from the fact that it's well-written for younger people, and exposes them to some aspects of a very interesting point in history. It may help ignite an interest in history, and push the reader to delve deeper into information about a distant time through the exposure of the various events and historical figures throughout the book.

This was a very nostalgic read, because I first read this whole series in elementary school, and plan to read all of the books again because I remember them as a cornerstone of my childhood.
Now, I may be biased because I obsess over anything and everything Cleopatra, but I think that this was a fresh, and wonderful take on Cleopatra before she was the last of the pharaohs. We see more of a family dynamic in this novel than ever, her sisters Arisone and Tryphaena are characters, and I have never read any Cleopatra fiction about them at all, so that was really special for me, and a standout part of the book.
I'm very pleased with the reread and plan to read them with my daughter (should there ever be one) and I definitely recommend the series to young girls, or nostalgic young adults, or even parents to read with their kids.

I love history and Egyptian culture so this book is absolutely perfect for me. I also loved the way that she always looked for poison or made sure Puzo was there to protect her. The romance of Puzo and her maid moved things along and I was so happy when they got married. Oops sorry to spoil part of the ending. I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I have.

While not my favorite book centered around Egypt, having read almost every book available in this category, it is a fun fictionalized take on a real historical person. I reread at least once that I remember and it probably was my favorite book out of the Royal Diaries series.
This was my favorite book in the Royal Diaries series.
Very nostalgic - I distinctly remember reading a couple of the novels in this series as a kid and loving them (notably Cleopatra, Elizabeth I, and Victoria). Going back and reading the full series from furthest back in history to most recent in history for nostalgic purposes.

I remember being so excited when I saw that the "Dear Canada" series had a spin-off of sorts called "The Royal Diaries" I was obsessed with this book and read it several times. The beginning was captivating and everything was so new and exciting it was like reading something from another planet. My eleven year old self was quite pleased
