Suspenseful as usual!

Never a let down and always a slow build of suspense, this book like others in this series doesn't disappoint. The inclusion of suspense in the love story between Laurie and Alex is an added bonus!

I picked this as my choice for the 2018 PopSugar Ultimate Reading Challenge prompt "a book with song lyrics in the title" since every time I walked past it at the library I couldn't help but think of Sting and the Police (and yes, the song is now stuck in my head again!). This was a fun, fast, fresh read and made me want to pick up earlier installments in the series. While I didn't have any trouble diving into book #5, I was definitely intrigued enough by the characters that I want to learn more about their backstories. Mary Higgins Clark was one of my go to authors in my early 20s and this book reminded me why. I look forward to reading more in this series and love the partnership she's forged with Alafair Burke to bring it to life.

I'm a little sick of everyone just being nasty and judgey about Ryan just because he isn't Alex. And of Laurie constantly putting Charlotte in harms way. I also find it annoying that Laurie is irritated every time her boss checks in with her at work about her job. Furthermore, it was unbelievable that Alex would propose to a woman he hadn't seen in months, who has been indifferent about their whole relationship- at BEST, and who is clearly still obsessed with her dead husband.

The mystery component of this story was a little better than some of the others, but the book ended very abruptly, even more so than the last, so we never got any closure with most of the main suspects like we usually have before in this series.

Entre el 2,5 y el 3*. Muy en la línea de los anteriores. Ligerito y de los que enganchan, aunque hay algunos personajes tan tan tan estereotipo que uff *face-palm*.

I don't normally give a 5 star rating but I don't normally finish a book in 24 hours!

Mary Higgins Clark kept me riveted to the pages to the point that I could not put this down. Such a great story focusing on producer Laurie Moran creating a new episode of her Under Suspicion crime solving program.

Laurie has to deal with a new TV program host, Ryan, who is a little self obsessed. On top of that the previous host, Alex and Laurie have much unfinished business regarding their relationship. Putting that aside, Laurie has to work on investigating with her team, the circumstances around the death of socialite and philanthropist Virginia Wakeling.

Her murder has turned into a cold case with the suspected killer, Virginia's (very young) boyfriend Ivan, trying to clear his name, but the evidence is pointing to him.

Laurie's investigation uncovers a family at odds, a woman trying to start a new life, jealous children, will beneficiaries and a legacy that could change the lives of the recipients.

The plot is so well constructed that you are kept in the dark about who may or may not have killed Virginia Wakeling.

A great yarn from a great storyteller.

Plot was pretty interesting and the characters were likable. I thought the pacing was well done as well. There was some serious hand holding with the clues though, some of them were repeated so many times I thought I lost my place accidentally. The ending was somehow both predictable and totally random lol. But overall liked it and am willing to read more from the authors

I will forever love MHC. I miss the way she writes alone, this was a collaboration.

The entitled Wakeling family.

I do like Laurie and her dear friend, Charlotte!

Happy ending!

Even though I didn't like this book as much as the others in the series, I was still pleasantly surprised by what happened. I loved the setting and the way the producers tried to replicate the night of the murder. And of course, it was great to see Alex back in Laurie's life!
