I liked the suspense, the drama and the description of the hockey scenes - that was exactly what I expected from a Tal Bauer novel. Other than that it was overly cheesy, too coincidental and far too easy (character) development for it to be really interesting.
In the blurb, Hunter is described as a simple hockey player who doesn't think beyond hockey and beer, and then suddenly he becomes the deep thinker who disects his feelings, their relationship and the feelings and relationships of everyone around him. Where does that come from?
Bryce is a grown man who has to hide his feelings from the world but as soon as he is with Hunter (but not yet in a relationship) he can't stop himself from singing him songs of profound feelings and only then realizes what he has done? Oops.
And do hockey players not have families that they are able to camp in hospital rooms for weeks?
I read this novel on one weekend because I was hoping to find more of the Tal Bauer I knew from previous books, but sadly I didn't.

It just isn’t my writing style. The way the story is told is not for me.

I feel terrible about not loving this book. It’s Tal Bauer, I love all his books. But, I just didn’t connect with the characters, everything felt needlessly overdramatic and the same curse words were used over and over to the point of my frustration.

It’s probably just me. I usually love this author.
