This had me all up in my feels. Insta-love but also a slow burn? Seeing Hunter and Bryce growing into themselves as their relationship grew had me tearing up. I have so many highlights. I loved Hunter learning French and by the end of the book, I feel like my basics from the two years in high school came back. My heart was in my throat for the last chunk of the book and I teared up so many times. Emotional, beautiful. I loved it.
3.5 stars.
I have read a lot of Tal books and I’m a huge fan. The Jock and You & Me are a couple of my favorites. This one missed the mark.
There was a nice build up to why they start falling for each other but it jumped to love very quickly. Tal writes tension and angst with perfection and this book lacked that.
I also have to say if you don’t read French you will need to use a translator to read this book. It really slowed down my progress on the book and left me annoyed. Knowing what they are saying in French does add to the story so I don’t recommend skipping translating (but man, you will want to).
Overall, I liked it. I’ll read anything he writes I just wanted more from this. It did teach my how to use the translator on my Kindle. So there’s that.

A sweet fluffy gay-awakening romance, until all of a sudden out of nowhere it becomes life or death. Serious content warning for injury detail. Also if you’re not Canadian / used to seeing untranslated French everywhere, that might be *a lot* as it’s verrrry liberally sprinkled throughout the book.
