Idk how to rate this.

As a licensed therapist and having worked with a lot of clients with heavy and complex trauma, I hear some fucked up shit. The stuff in this book barely phased me in all honesty. I know what people are capable of and then some.

The difficulty with rating it is: the writing itself was good. The trauma porn of POC is not and is honestly offensive.

When you look at it from a strict psychological perspective, this story really does show how easily the world and our experiences in it shifts and alters our thought processes. And in that way, this book was good.

Outside of that? Yeah….. idk.

And the content warnings are for real and should be listened to if you aren’t accustomed to this kind of content whether in reading/other media or by exposure because you help others with their traumas (such as being a therapist. Which means I should probably talk to MY therapist about why this book didn’t phase me….)

Is it wrong of me to like it? Maybe. But I did like it.
The book is basically just a trauma-porn about broken people but elevated to the extreme. I couldn't for the life of me look away from the pages, so captivating and horribly bizzare the content was.
I guessed the ending 50-60 pages in, but I've watched (and loved to bits) Gozu by Takashi Miike, so it was the least shocking thing to me in this whole book.
Read all the trigger warnings carefully. They are here and they are very real.

I think my reaction is just “bro, what.”

Didn’t love it, but didn’t hate it either, hard to rate. Compelling enough to see it through to the end, and without the buildup it would’ve been ridiculous. Shockingly not the grossest thing I’ve ever read. The kind of book you read just to actually know for yourself what’s in it for morbid curiosity. Now I do know. Oh well.

I do feel confident I may look at more “hardcore” horror novels that spark my curiosity though since I handled this one pretty well.

This was a wild ride. Really gripping storytelling with some very interesting characters.

Check trigger warnings before reading.

Oh, this was disgusting...

And I loved every word. Pretty sure the stories told in Woom will stick with me for the rest of my life. This is not for the faint of heart, but if you have the stomach, it is a tale of love and self discovery unlike any I've ever read.

Bless you, Shyla.

Room 6 has seen many many a horror in its day. And as predictable as the ending is, it leaves you waiting for the room to see that one more act of violence. I was just sitting there waiting for her to realize his true intent the whole time. The stories do seem a bit shock for shock's sake, but it's an engaging and short enough read that's that's not too bad a thing. Not for the weak stomached, but that comes with the genre.
