I enjoyed it, very interesting plot, and very realistic.
However, I found it rather difficult to follow up with the narration of logic of the mysteries for several of Lord John stories

one quote was really true and I loved it:
"a love that sacrificed honor was less honest than simple lust"
very true yet in real life widely misused, "Love", that is.

This book features one of the side characters in Gabaldon's epic Outlander series. He's a terrific character, but this book lacks the richness of characters and description of the Outlander books and left me wanting.

Seems to be her foray into mystery writing.

I love the Outlander series, but I just didn't like this book. Boring, predictable, did I say boring?

I seem to enjoy this book more each time I read it! For Outlander fans, LJ & the Private Matter provides a view of Lord John's life while he's (mostly) not obsessing about Jamie. It's quite fun to see him in his element back in London. Despite the book's somewhat overly convoluted plot, it's an enjoyable, amusing read, and definitely adds to my appreciation of Lord John, who has quickly become a favorite character.

I enjoyed this- I loved Lord John collecting clues to solve a mystery and how the story also was personal/involved his family. I couldn’t rate higher because the ending in this book was a bit anti-climactic… but I am intrigued enough to continue the series! Love his character.

This was more of a 3.5, but I'm going to round up. It was enjoyable enough. I love following John and enjoyed the introduction of the new character Tom Byrd. The story was all right, but I will freely admit that I enjoyed the characters and the time period more than I enjoyed the mystery.

I was honestly only mildly interested in what happened by the time we got there. Bummer.

This was my first introduction to the Lord John Series and I thought it was very good. Nothing too over the top but a good read if you've ever ben fascinated with the character from Outlander and his origin.
