Ugggh this was almost a FIVE STAR book but it built to such a strange (not in a good way imo) ending. The last one 1/3 of the book was like a different book. The first 2/3 were well written, entertaining, mysterious, thought provoking. Then it just went off the rails. I am so confused.

This book was unhinged but I couldn’t stop reading. I do think the writing could’ve used some work, though.

It's a 2.80. ⭐ For me.

I hated the MC, she's unlikable but then again most characters except Victor is unlikable and annoying.
I found Julie to be stupid in the first half of the story. I know that she's a product of abuse and exploitations but can't she see the opportunities it presented when she assumed her dead twin's persona and how she's in the sweet spot to punish her aunt and cousin.
The first half of the story was boring and I was contemplating of DNF this book until she went to that stupid wellness retreat and that's where the pace of the story starts to go wayside but good. The second half felt like a different book, a page from bunny with their cult like behaviours.
The ending was satisfying as unhinged goes which helps make this book into a 2.8 star but it would be better to have an extra chapter about her villainous aunt and cousin as I want to know the juicy punishments they would received, courtesy of Eto of course.

Wonderful novel for those who view social media and internet culture through a more critical lens!! Probably would also be a huge hit with true crime fans, but I think it’s perfect for anyone who enjoys thrillers. It’s so easy to lose yourself in the story!

There is a lot of social media talk in this book, interesting to read in this current climate, but was a bit much. Also had some squeamish/ gross descriptive parts.
Definitely an unhinged main character
and I liked that she didn't really change lol I kind of wished for a different ending, maybe where she dies on the island instead of getting away with it all and being loved online but it was fitting for the story! Social media influencing is nuts and that point is driven home well

3.5 ⭐️
This book was wild! The main theme was a satire on the world of influencers. Julie takes over the social life of her estranged twin Chloe after finding her dead. The first half addresses Julie becoming an influencer and falling into the entitlement trap, and the second half is where it becomes unhinged as Julie learns about the cult of the Belladonnas. My main problem with the book was I thought the book could have condensed some of the storyline as the point of it being a satire on social media was very obvious.
