This book was wild! The main theme was a satire on the world of influencers. Julie takes over the social life of her estranged twin Chloe after finding her dead. The first half addresses Julie becoming an influencer and falling into the entitlement trap, and the second half is where it becomes unhinged as Julie learns about the cult of the Belladonnas. My main problem with the book was I thought the book could have condensed some of the storyline as the point of it being a satire on social media was very obvious.

This book is a blend of thriller, horror, mystery, dark comedy and suspense. It really doesn’t fit in to a specific genre. I was surprised (and at one point very disgusted) at the unexpected horror elements, but the overall story captured me from the beginning and I could not put it down. The first half of the book was gripping and immersive. The second half went a little over the top, very mind-bending and weird. But the author did a great job keeping enough of the mystery and suspense elements hanging throughout the book that I had to keep reading to find out what had happened and what was going to happen. As a debut, this “dark side of social media” book was unexpectedly (in a good way) sharp, entertaining, fresh, and riveting. I can’t wait to read what comes next from this author.

Although some parts I found unrealistic or predictable, overall I enjoyed this novel.

It’s very relatable now that we have influencers on all social media platforms. I would watch a movie of the book.

First of all—this book? Pure chaos. Dark, satirical, and messy in the most bingeable way.

Julie is not a likable main character. In fact, she’s kind of the worst.
And yet?? I could not stop listening to her story. Her spiral is slow, calculated, and just so hard to look away from. A real train wreck. 🚂 💥

The audiobook was incredible—the narrator really brought Julie to life. Her voice shifted and evolved as Julie unraveled, and the way she portrayed the other characters made it SO obvious how vapid and ridiculous these people were. It added a whole extra layer of immersion.

There were moments I genuinely thought, “Okay… maybe she’s learning something,” and then the end hit and I was just NOPE, I guess not? Not sharing spoilers, but… girl. 🙃
And the twist with the mouse?? My jaw was on. the. floor. I had to pause and replay it just to make sure I heard it right. That made my stomach turn… in a good way?

The influencer angle was definitely over-the-top in place…Like, I don’t actually think anyone goes that far to maintain an image, but it worked. The satire hit hard. This was curated chaos wrapped in designer trauma and I devoured it. I just love stories about influencers. I don’t know why but it’s addictive. Tell me I’m not alone here!

I finished this book feeling so many things. Not wrecked exactly, not hollow either… just emotionally scrambled in the best way.
Would I reread it? Probably not (I’m not a rereader), but I’ll be thinking about it for a long time.

Read this if you love influencer drama, morally grey (maybe morally DARK) women making VERY bad choices, or if you’re obsessed with shows like Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and want to see that culty, high-gloss darkness on the page.

4 stars. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Please someone read this so I can scream about it in detail.
