What a read… incredibly hard for me to start, anyone going through a break up (like myself) might struggle, but persevere, it’s definitely worth it. The male perspective, being forced into his world post break up, almost felt cruel. However, you begin to sympathise and grow to like Andy in his own way. His theorising on everything, but mostly the relationship, grew as he navigated his way through life without Jen. A few chapters in it became very difficult to then put the book down. It was such a great read, the character development was so well done, I thoroughly enjoyed it, whilst also crying a lot.
The new found empathy for my ex, however irrational, was unexpected. It took me by surprise, it’s not often we get to see or visualise something from another’s perspective and I felt this book really achieved this in such a subtle way.
The validation in this book that possibly I am not the only one to have gone through this, was enlightening, the similarities between Jen and I were uncanny and it was difficult yet eye opening to read, I felt everything she was saying, I felt it all.

I really started to get into this by listening to it- I love all their British accents! This is my first Dolly Alderton and I enjoyed her writing. I had some laughs and some reflection. From someone who broke up with their partner a year ago now, it was interesting to read the other POV. Then the final chapter from Jen’s perspective really hit home. I was not expecting to relate to this book so much but it really is a great breakup novel lol.
