Wow! I think I spent most of my time reading this with my mouth half open in awe of the amazingness of this series.
I fell in love with the darker side of the turtles in this volume. I laughed at the references to the old cartoon being called lame. Because lets face it they were kind of lame.

This trade starts at the beginning of the relaunch of the series. We learn about their origins of the turtles and splinter. Also get introduced to April and Casey.

The plot starts up 15 months after the accident that released them and mutated them. They are searching for their brother who they were separated from after the accident. With multiple flashbacks of sorts to the accident and lead up to it all in between their search.

I can't wait to read the next trade in this series!

By the time I was old enough to engage with TMNT, it had become a merch factory. The only meaningful ways I consumed it were the first movie (which is still great, by the way) and the video games; I never watched the show regularly and I certainly never read any of the comics - so I was going in relatively fresh.

That doesn't matter so much as this is a new continuity and there's a new (but mostly familiar) origin story at play here. I liked this new take on the origin as it adds an extra layer of complexity to a handful of characters. The action is good, the art is fantastic, and the characters are written pretty well. I will probably read a good amount of this Eastman run!

I'm just trying out different comics and I have watched some of the ninja turtle movies, but I don't have a lot of background with them. That said, I loved this comic!

The artwork looked great and was really easy to follow (that's really important to me) and the plot was very interesting, with well done pacing.

This was great! Getting back to how the Turtles used to be! Kevin Eastman (one of the Turtles original creators) is back on the staff. This is more mature than the 80s cartoon: there's a bit of swearing (not much, though), there's blood and there's more mature themes. All-in-all it feels grittier and probably more to my taste.
This graphic novel covers the origins of the Turtles, although slightly different to some of the other origin tales. Early on Raphael is separated from his brothers and the others spend ages trying to find him whilst battling Splinter's enemy.
A good tale and I look forward to picking up the others in the series to see how this progresses.

I digged the Turtle comics when I was in my teens and kind of liked the roleplaying game and 80's cartoon (or was it 90's?). Anyway, for seemingly decades later my parents seem to think I was obsessed with Turtles. I can distinctly remember being obsessed with many things in my teens - cider, girls, heavy metal, but I don't remember anthropomorphic animals being one of them.

Anyway, fast forward a couple of decades and my little boy has discovered the reboot of TMNT on Nickolodeon. He just adores it and we spend hours watching this together and playing with the toys etc. Maybe I am obsessed.

I've got mixed opinions on this reboot of the comics. The tone is closer to the original Eastman comics which is cool but I think I struggled with the art for a while, it felt like it was still trying to find it's look and identity. This collection is a reboot of the Turtles origins and to be honest it wasn't really hanging together that well. It's a slow start. The turtles haven't found their voice yet and Splinter seems 'off'. I'm going to preserver with the series but it's not an instant hit for me.
