hopeful informative inspiring fast-paced

Jag vet inte riktigt vad jag ska skriva om det här manifestet. Förordet av Sara Stridsberg var briljant. Manifestet var mycket välskrivet. Vissa delar var problematiska men överlag var det underhållande läsning

It was a good laugh, but I will never ever understand the hype. Ever.

Behövde den här boken i mitt liv just nu hahaha

If you are looking in this book for answers, I beg of you to look elsewhere.

Reading this book feels like the female equivalent of going on 4Chan, it's full of borderline fascist, homophobic nonsense.

Admittedly, Solanas comes close to getting the point, but she can never quite understand/comprehend the root cause, and instead of doing any research, has come to the conclusion that "men are just bad, and that's why they should die". Instead of making the effort to understand the deep social and economic reasons that the patriarchy is upheld and how that impacts both men and women. If you want to learn about this, try reading bell hooks' book The Will To Change.

I do empathise with Solanas, I feel as though her beliefs probably developed due to her childhood sexual abuse from male family members, and an angry search for answers.

True man-hating gold. Hilarious as well.
challenging funny reflective fast-paced

You can disagree with someone and still think some of their views are right. You can be unstable and still be a wonderful person. Absolutely true.

I read S.C.U.M Manifesto for an assignment in one of my colleges classes. It was not for me. I’ve been part of inpatient situations with angry, revenge-seeking people just like the writer, and I wasn’t surprised to learn about her history. It’s incredibly sad, but that’s no excuse. I was shocked (but in a way, not shocked) to learn she tried to murder Andy Warhol. In a way, she did eventually kill him through her actions.

There’s way more to S.C.U.M Manifesto that neurotypical people don’t see, but is clear as day to others like myself. But that doesn’t make her violent beliefs or actions justifiable. I understand, but I cannot, in good conscious, think the manifesto is something to live up to or idealize.

I give this four stars based on how engaging a read it is. Solanas brought to light some very relevant and valid issues surrounding patriarchy. Yeah, this book is crazy. Yeah, I'd call it the feminazi mein Kampf. Yea Solanas' solutions to these very real problems are absurd enough that it makes the reader question if this is satire. But, while her solutions are ridiculous, she was an early example of women bringing to light the nature of patriarchy and our societal corruption.

"The male claim that females find fulfillment through motherhood and sexuality reflects what males think they'd find fulfilling if they were female."

Need a short read to get you all fired up? Ready to tackle your activism with a newfound passion? Try SCUM Manifesto. Man-hating, woman-loving, capitalism-detesting, and government-overthrowing, this book will leave you renewed and pissed and full of emotions you had long since forgotten and buried.

I will say, however, that the introduction to this edition (AK Press Distro) left me rather disappointed. It was as though the author hadn't read the text at all, throwing claims of Solanas' "genderqueer"-ness and stating that she [the editor] lived in a community of "would-be Valeries ... formerly or presently female," which I can only assume to mean that she is including those of the male sex. As though they aren't the root of the very problem Solanas seeks to eradicate.

As for the text itself, I am thoroughly impressed. How Solanas is able to write a convincing, impressive text such as SCUM makes perfect sense given how frankly she writes, clearly wanting everyone know exactly what she intended for every word. She spares nobody, and why should she?
