Lights out is my first formula one book I have read and I had so much fun reading it! I LOVED the chemistry between the two. I could not put the book down. I loved that they were both formula one drivers, and the way he was protective of her.
The only reason I knocked off a star due to finding the sex scenes cringy and there was a bit of a random plot point towards the end regarding her mom.
Overall this book was super fun I will def be checking out other formula one books and other books by this author!
Thank you love notes PR for the ARC!

Lights Out by Kayla James takes you on a ride through the fast-paced world of Formula One racing, where the sparks fly both on and off the track!
This book touches on many tropes, delivering them in a rapid-fire pace that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The undeniable chemistry between F1 veteran Ryder King and the new hot shot Blake Stone is palpable from the start.
What I enjoyed most about Lights Out was the realistic dialogue that felt like genuine conversations between friends. Blake and Cassie's banter is relatable and adds depth to their characters. Plus, can we talk about Cassie's story? Kayla James sets up a perfect narrative there that has me eagerly anticipating her book!
While there's definitely some instalove between Blake and Ryder, it's sweet and adds to the charm of their relationship. Watching them navigate the challenges of F1 together, especially with her being a female racer on his team, was both exciting and heartwarming.
One minor issue I encountered was the pacing, as everything seemed to unfold at breakneck speed. However, this didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the story.
Overall, Lights Out is a cute and engaging read with no third-act breakup (thankfully!), making it a satisfying journey from start to finish.

Omg!!
This book was everything I hoped for and more. To be a female in a mostly dominated male field is hard. So the fact that Blake did that and made it her bitch is so bad ass and inspiring.
Blake and Ryder were literally made for the other. She may have fell first but

At first I was a little weary but the way that Blake and Ryder were so sweet to each other made it worth it.
I enjoyed that there was no third act breakup for this story and also how there wasn’t like an enemies to lovers trope— their friendship really did work super well in the story.
Four stars for me because I did get the ick when he called himself her king and the ‘coke for your king’ moment because that was just a little too cringey to me.
What I didn’t see was them getting married because that did have me gagged, I won’t lie.
Excited to read more from this author in the future!

first of all i want to say a big thank you to Kayla and Love Notes PR for sending me this arc!
I am nothing if not an enthusiastic for f1 romances and miss kayla james absolutely nailed this and the fact that this was her debut novel makes it a thousand times more impressing, the writing, the plot, the side characters, OMG the side characters were everything i loved them so so much and i could not be more thrilled to read everyone's story!!
Blake and Ryder's story got me absolutely giggling and kicking my feet, they were so sweet yet their banter was so funny and captivating, the way blake brought ryder back to life i need to say, it did make me get a few tears out + the epilogue absolutely made me sob, i loved how their story wrapped up so well and I can't wait to see them again in the rest of the series, because these two absolutely got a piece of my heart

I’m a little bit disappointed in this book. I really enjoyed the first half of the book. I am slow burn girl and this was not that. From pretty much their first meeting the characters relationship moved incredibly fast, to the point where they were married only 75% of the way in. Some of the details were nice, like the guessing game of weirdest item that Ryder had signed, but overall the depth to the relationship seemed a bit lacking. I really disliked the sex scenes and it seems like the author didn’t really enjoy writing them either, because they were short and awkward. The whole “Who’s you King?” thing made me feel really uncomfortable. There also weren’t a whole lot of conflict in the book, which I enjoyed but it meant that there wasn’t a lot happening in the second half of the book. Some of the plot twist towards the end felt a little unnecessary and very coincidental. The Formula 1 aspect of the book didn’t really work for me either. It was all a bit too convenient. Like Blake, the FMC, being completely unknown but somehow being good enough to get into Formula 1. Also, of course I don’t want this to happen, but it seemed unrealistic to me that there wasn’t any hate on social media for Blake being signed and only Jean, the “villain”, having a problem with her. The relationship between Blake and Ryder also didn’t cause any problems for their image to the team, whereas in real life that would’ve had very major consequences and probably hurt the image of woman in a very male dominated sport. Moreover, the accident with Jean was kind of ridiculous. The fact that her entire car was engulfed in flames and that she passed out and that she didn’t have severe burns is just completely ridiculous. There was also very little actual racing in the book. Very often the race would start and the chapter would end and the next chapter would be about the results of the race. Overall, I wanted a lot more from this book and I’m actually quite disappointed that it didn’t live up to my expectations.
wait, this is a debut? I loved Lights Out! I love a book that engages you and keeps you interested until the very last page and THIS IS IT.
I've been deep in my formula 1 era the last few weeks and so when I came across this on ig, it was a must download (thanks ku!).
Synopsis: Two Formula 1 drivers (a legacy and a rookie) land together on a brand new team. He's recovering from a terrible accident, and she (yes SHE!) is talent to watch. They end up living together, working out together, practicing together, and of course fall in love together all throughout the racing season.
This was so enjoyable because the chemistry was strong, the side characters were so lovable, and the plot moved quick!
Blake was so inspiring in the way that she was the only female driver - she handled it so well. Ryder was an absolute gem in the way that he supported Blake.
And the ending?? SO GOOD.
You'll love:
+ sports romance
+ forced proximity
+ age gap (8 years)
+ dual pov
+ spicy
