Honestly, just read it. I am divorced and honestly, this book prepared me for how to establish a healthy relationship with someone who is not dependent upon me for their emotional well-being. John Gottman is a genius and an incredibly well-researched author. When his book says "Expert" - it's legitimate.

I really enjoy Gottman's approach to relationships and it's pragmatic and practical advice to great relationships.
Excellent advice, really helpful to read through with my spouse.
It should be noted though that the language used is extremely heteronormative.

Feels like a book that I should re-read multiple times. I like the emphasis on self-introspection.
This book is awesome Don’t let the whole marriage thing scare you this book would help anyone in a emotionally invested relationship with anyone best friend, roomate, and obviously a life partner whether they be temporary or otherwise

Pretty heteronormative and gendered in a way that can be offputting trying to apply the skills to LGBTQ, queer, or poly relationships. It also seems to equate these ideas as universal cross-cultural, which I don't know that I agree with and may be found similarly offputting for BIPOC folks. That being said, it does list some really concrete skills and exercises grounded in a conceptualization of core elements of a good relationship that feels easily digestible and actionable.

Best and most useful relationship advice book I have read, and the only one that has a basis in any kind of science.
I highly recommend this book and the activities it contains!

Listened to the audio and will be buying a hard copy to refer back to. Great tips for any long term relationship and have suggested my fiancé reads as well.
My marriage wasn't in trouble or anything when I read it, but this book was unbelievably useful. Informative, life changing, I think that no matter where your marriage is, the information will help make it stronger.
