The premise is great but honestly I’m just confused at the end.

Started to lose me during the middle, then just got a little tedious. I came away not really feeling anything for any of the characters and confused about the world outside the compound. Was it America? Europe? The book said suncream so I thought Europe, but then they called it sunscreen once. The author is from Ireland but I didn't feel like the book had any sense of place in the world. 
The vagueness of it all just left me feeling meh at it.
