I spent the first half of this book bored and annoyed and the last half uplifted and entertained. I don't know how to rate it. I liked the other Kasie West book I read before this one better and, according to the other reviews, most of her other books are better than this one. So. Maybe check those out?

Kasie West is my go to author when I want to read something light and happy. "Lucky In Love," is that, but has a dose more of reality than some of the other books I have read by Kasie West.

Maddie, the main characters has real struggles like fighting parents, a sibling with personal issues, financial worries, etc...
Because of her struggles and personality, I found Maddie easy to sympathize with.
I continued to relate to her when she won the lottery. I think many of us would have made the same mistakes and had the same struggles that come with suddenly becoming a celebrity over night.

Besides the realistic plot, I also really liked the characters. All interesting characters and brought something to the story. One of my favorite things about Kasie West's books is how friendships play an important role to the story. "Lucky in Love," is no exception; Maddie and her friendships are a huge part of the story.
This book is a romance, of course, so romantic relationships also play a big part of the story. I am a sucker for the friends-to-couple trope, so I especially loved Maddie and Seth's interactions. I think Seth is one of Kasie West's best male characters. He is such a sweetheart and treats Maddie so well *sigh*

If you are looking for a very cute and clean romance, that is a bit more on the realistic side, I think you will enjoy this book.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars

This wasn't my favorite premise. I really don't like books where I have to endure the main character making bad decision after bad decision. It really bugs me and took away from my enjoyment of the book.

This was still super cute and a quick, easy read.

3 Stars.

Probably one of, if not my least, favorite Kasie West book. I enjoyed the plot and storyline and I liked how a lot of the characters had flaws and that she had family problems but she was just so dang naive I almost couldn't take it. Maybe I would have been the same in high school, but I feel like probably not. It was just frustrating to read because I didn't connect with her personality/decision making skills at all. Zoo Seth was adorable. He should have been in the story way more.

Very predictable but cute.
emotional lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I liked the premise and the message of the book. Overall, unfortunately, it is the worst Kasie West book I have read. I didn't care for the characters, who felt rather shallow to me, and the story also felt somewhat off. But the worst thing about this experience was the narrator of the audiobook. I always cringed when she did her "male" voices, which really took me out of the story.

I bought Lucky in Love at a Scholastic Book Fair because Kayla from Books and Lala keeps talking about Kasie West. It then sat on my bookshelf for a year and a half, and I finally decided to pick it up for Contemporaryathon.

Lucky in Love takes place in Santa Ana/Tustin, California. The main character, Maddie, decides to buy her first lottery ticket on her 18th birthday – and wins! This is about Maddie making mistakes and learning how $30 million can impact your life.

The characters are bland, and unlikable. Maddie is judgemental and snippy, but also smart, witty, and quirky. Her friend Elise is all about fun, while her friend Blaire is all about getting into Stanford. Her brother, Beau, is a jerk. Her coworker, Seth, is an easy-going, risk-taking, kind Asian-American, and is my favourite character.

If Maddie is so smart why does she act so stupid? I feel like something her boss does without Maddie’s consent is completely inappropriate. Maddie’s parents are dysfunctional, selfish, and immature. I’m just so tired of adults being portrayed as morons in YA novels.

Lucky in Love is not for readers who like a complicated plot or well-written characters. This is a quick, fun book for reluctant-readers. I definitely want to read more by West. According to Goodreads her most popular book is The Distance Between Us and her highest rated book is P.S. I Like You – which one should I read first?

The plot was all right. The characters were all right. The romance was all right. Everything was just that- all right. I was irritated by how Maddie spent her money and how naive she was, though she changed by the end of the book.
