I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. The first half or even three quarters went by like a dream. It was amazing and I actually wished it would never end. Then, it hit a bumpy spot and kind of went down from there. The last quarter was disappointing, but the book is still worth reading.
still reading, but it is a good book. interesting look at boarding schools from a scholarship student point of view. fairly easy to read. they might be rich spoiled brats, but they still go through all the same trials we did in high school. finally finished. was good, got a little slow to me at the end, but then i was also busy with some other stuff so that might be why.
I simply love Curtis Sittenfeld. detail about how it feels to be a bit of an outsider has never felt so incisive. and as a writer, she does things with pace that I can only dream of.

I felt some physical pain reading this book. I kept reading to get to the good part that I just KNEW was coming. And then I was finished. That "good part" doesn't exist in this book. If I were to sum it all up into three words: irritating, confusing, meh.
I wanted to love this, but just didn't. I *much* preferred Sittenfeld's later book, "The Man of My Dreams."
It was an interesting read, but the main character really bothered me. She was so insecure with herself that she never stood up for what she really wanted.
