4.5 stars rounded up. the protagonist wasn’t exactly likable, but it felt like a deeply accurate portrayal of being an uncomfortable teenage girl at a boarding school. I really enjoyed the writing.
Reminds me of those Mallory Towers/St Clare's books by Enid Blyton, but with much more sexual tension.

I have no coherent thoughts to add, but I've never underlined and highlighted a book as much as this one.
Part of me wants to come back and reread it some day. Another part of me is already too afraid to do so, as if I myself lived through Lee's experiences and can't bear the thought of going back to relive it all.

What I liked:
- prep school
- relatable
- I enjoyed the authors writing style
- I liked how it was divided up by semesters
What I didn’t like:
- 0 character development
- I didn’t like any of the characters besides Martha and she barely even got any screen time besides when lee was either being a bad friend to her or was being all jealous of her
- also I’m ngl I thought it was about to get gay between Lee and Martha and it never did bc of that whole thing with sin-jun and Lee’s extremely brief thoughts on homosexuality in like the 2nd or 3rd chapter
- also. Racist??? Idk Lee is a white woman and so is the author and there were just things in here which are better addressed in other reviews

i enjoyed this book way more than i expected... at first i was waiting for something to happen but halfway through i started to realize how much i cared for the characters and was involved in their lives despite how mundane the story was. it was very catcher in the rye esque except the narrator wasn't AS insufferable. super bittersweet ending that perfectly captures the feeling of graduating and growing up
