Modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice, even reusing people and place names. I liked the cultural diversity. I just didn't really care about the story... I knew it was a retelling, but it was just so blatantly copied, even down to some quotes. I got tired of all the social media references. (I know that's a me problem, I just don't enjoy too much of that stuff in books because it changes to quickly.)

This is a Pride and Prejudice retelling. So much so that I’m not sure that it could be enjoyed as much without having already read Pride and Prejudice.
Through my reading it actually took me a while to realise that many of the character’s names match the original. So we have Lisa and Dorsey as our main characters. And many of the side characters’ names are also similar to their originals.
The beat for beat matching of the plot annoyed me in the beginning. But the story redeemed itself with it’s beautiful diversity of characters and really ended up with more rounded characters.

The only good thing about this book was that Liza’s family was hilarious whenever they had some dialogue happening. Other than that, I feel like lust was being equated to love in this book between Liza and Dorsey and I hate that storyline. It seems like both of their prejudices only changed for each other and not overall and can we really count that as changing and growing in your values and morals? You can’t say shit about poor Black people but also say you care about the humanitarian cause cuz those two things don’t add up. I don’t like the premise of the pride and prejudice book in general, but do love the movie lol. Also, that much miscommunication at our big age of 30…leave me alone

I could not get through this book. I DNF’d at around 50%. I never read Pride and Prejudice but if this is a great retelling of the story there is no way I’d make it through the original book. The mmc was an asshole and rude asf. He had almost no redeeming qualities. The fmc had a lot going on and suffered from the blind spots that a lot of political activist suffer from but that wasn’t crazy to me. They were so horny for each other the whole time BUT DID NOTHING the whole time I was reading it. All the talked about was being enemies and wanting to do each other. I really wanted liked this but it was not for me.
