I preface this by saying I've never read or watched Pride and Prejudice (I know, I know 🙈) but this fell so flat for me 😭 I read a review saying it couldn't stand on it's own without the allure of a retelling, and I think that's true... I found the characters really unlikable which made the story, that had so much promise, fall really flat.

I know this was written by a Black woman, and that the whole story is rooted in prejudice, and as a white person I do not have these lived experiences... but I think one of the hardest parts for me was how much prejudice both of these characters had against one another WHILE BEING UPSET WITH THE OTHER MC FOR THE SAME EXACT REASON. And don't get me wrong, I know it happens... But the hypocritical micro agressions had me cringing so hard and made it so hard to like the characters.

The audio was good and probably the only reason I hung in there. Kacie Rogers and Ron Nery Jr both did a wonderful job narrating this story and I enjoyed this listen.

This is the second book I've read by the author and she continues to not disappoint. I have never read the source material so i don't know how true she stayed to it. I loved the slow burn of their relationship as well as their awkward meet-cute. For once the spiciness was written without an ounce of cringe and for that I will be eternally be a fan. 10/10 would recommend.
