A young woman gets a job at a women’s magazine, mistakenly thinking it was for a well-respected newspaper company. She begins secretly writing letters to readers who are seeking advice when the resident advice columnist refuses to do so because they are the ‘wrong sort’. Set in London during World War 2, it looks at the lives of women on the homefront and all they must contend with from daily bombings to more traditional relationship problems. It addresses the gravity of wartime London (without being too graphic) with lots of humor throughout.
I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Historical Fiction isn’t totally my thing, but I’m trying to read more of it, and this was a great choice to start with. It was lovely. And the audiobook narration was very well done.

Honestly, I picked this one up as an addition to a discount book order because of the cover, and it was a lucky pick, as it was really good! This is set in WWII in London during the Blitz, following a girl who is wanting to be a Lady War Correspondent while the Germans are bombing the city and generally Being A Nuisance. This is not me being odd, the book has randomly placed capitalization everywhere, and I adore the very British mentality of these characters. It’s not a very deep or very moving story, but is an interesting insight in the life of women at home desperately trying to keep everyday life going while the world was falling apart.

Sometimes the narrator can be a Very Silly Girl Indeed but I liked this book very much overall.
Set in WWII, it features a young woman who hopes to become a War Correspondent or at least find a way to Do More Toward The War Effort. It's an often silly and sometimes quite moving tale of friendship and discovery in war time.

Picked this up on a whim. Liked it, pleasant enough diversion, but nothing so exciting that I would ever go back to it or rave about it. Solid lakeside read though and I will certainly be able to pass it along to someone else who will also enjoy it in a slightly tepid way.

There were sad parts of course since the background is WWII but overall a lighthearted book about a spunky young woman trying to find a career in journalism. A little preachy at times.
