This took awhile to grow on me, it definitely is a formulaic WWII plucky woman book. And at a certain point I wanted to shake the main character’s best friend and thought that drama was a bit forced. But I also cried in 2 different airports, dramatically holding back sobs as I power walked between gates. That’s got to count for something.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I did not want it to end. I loved the characters, the setting and the message. Imagining London during WW2 was fascinating and really showed the commitment everyone had to be brave and not let Hitler "win" by showing fear. Yet, the humanity of the characters was so strong and the relationships so real that the reader could really understand the difficulty of maintaining composure during such dark days. I would love to be friends with Emmy and Bunty. I highly recommend this book.
