Some of the details got difficult to follow, but a very factual depiction.

I've always wanted to know more about the Manson murders, if only because I've grown up knowing that Manson was evil and that there were murders, but not much more than that, and I knew there had to be something about the story that kept it alive in everyone's minds.

This book is very long when listened to (I think it might be easier to read on a page), but Bugliosi does a great job diving deep into technicalities without sounding either opaque or pedantic. Overall, I enjoyed the experience of listening to this, but I don't think I ever need to hear much more about Manson, and I'm glad to finish this one.

Crazy is a vast understatement in describing Charles Manson. Here's everything you need to know regarding the Manson Murders in extremely meticulous detail. The fact that he died this year, this was more than appropriate to cover. Every horrific account all the way up to the trial. Now, personally these cases never really caught my eye as much as The Ripper did, but I do appreciate the craftsmanship of this book. Only read this if you're extremely interested in this subject.

This is a HUGE book. It starts out as the scary thriller you'd expect (seriously, don't start reading it at night), but it's more than that. As someone who was only familiar with Manson as part of pop culture, the description of the murders should dispel any glamour or mystique you may have associated with him. "Senseless" is often used to describe crimes, but the Manson murders are the epitome of doing terrible things for absolutely no reason.

As the book progresses, it becomes an impressive legal treatise, revealing how complicated it is to prosecute a murder (much less seven). Bugliosi thinks highly of himself, but honestly after awhile you can't blame him. Everyone thought Manson was guilty, but no one thought he or the girls could be convicted. It takes him 350 pages to describe the legal battle, and not one page felt extraneous.
