“Step on me with those vicious boots of yours.”

“You, darling?”
“No,”  “And if you call me darling again, I’ll bite you.”
“Promise?”

“And you, madam, are the most enticing creature I have ever known. I want to lick every inch of you.” rogue 😈

In this intriguing tale we go on the hunt for a missing amulet. Not only do you encounter flying houses and a Witch on a bicycle but also flying pumpkins. A witch with serious determination (as well as self delusions) and a rogue pirate who'll easily charm the drawers right off you. There's also kidnapping involved and depending on the character you ask you'll get a different answer: if you ask Charlotte she'll tell you she kidnapped the pirate and if you ask Alex he'll tell you he kidnapped her.

Charlotte is absolutely loveable even with her affinity for thieving and her love for dropping blunt objects onto people's heads. Alex is a charmer with a love for piratic behaviour as well as a certain strawberry blonde with weaponised boots. And they, together, seem to have a thing for footwear, each other in boots apparently. They also do really love stealing from each other not that it goes unnoticed by either party.

I love India's writing style and sense of humour, it's fresh and witty and delicious. I also love the fact she incorporates classic literature into her stories by mentioning Emily Bronte and Jane Austen along with beloved characters from their novels. Dare I say she's becoming a new fave of mine.

I love the shared characters from book 1 with a new heroine. That being said, I would’ve found this more enjoyable had the heroines and their story arc been a bit more different. But still a very cozy read.

I enjoyed this book significantly more than the first one! Although I find this writing style to be difficult to read at times, I love the Wes Anderson-esque of the world.

This one got better as it went on! I liked Alex from book 1 but Charlotte took some time to grow on me. Probably my favorite moments were when Charlotte was envious/admiring of Cecilia and the love between Cecilia and Ned. I just love outsider POVs??? Loved the begrudging Cecilia/Charlotte and Alex/Ned friendships (yeah yeah, Alex, we all know you're the one who wants all the double dates).

Oh I also love how Charlotte and Alex just casually stumbled into domestic bliss and were only in denial for so long, because they, being a witch and a pirate, respectively, are selfish beings, as they should be.

This was cute! Started off feeling almost a bit too chaotic after the first book, but once there was some emotional intimacy, it settled into a good balance of chaos and sweetness and overcoming your past.
