One book written in high twee with lashings of steampunk and referential wit, I could handle though I wouldn't say I enjoyed [b:The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels|55502861|The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels (Dangerous Damsels, #1)|India Holton|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1606749077l/55502861._SX50_.jpg|86547348], rating it only three stars. This is more of the same and after a while the twee got on my nerves, especially when there is nothing else of substance to capture my attention. (Though there was one Star Wars reference.)
There's a lot of the two main characters protesting too much they don't like each other whilst also going at it like rabbits. There is a whiff of a plot underneath the high society fighting & rivalries but this is less a popcorn read and more a candy floss indulgence - mostly air and ~~food colouring~~ narrative styling.

This was so much FUN. I adored the banter, the flirting, the innuendos… this was a great time! I adore these two characters, separate and together, and I liked that everything was more fleshed out than book 1.

the side characters are pretty clearly the strongest feature of this novel. they're entertaining and witty. but the romance is stilted, overwritten and too insta-lovey. the main characters are not that compelling and the most chemistry they have is in the first scene.
