You know at first I did not think I would like a series where each book focuses solely on a new couple. The Bridgerton series starting disabusing me of that, and then also the League of Gentlewomen (i.e., Bringing Down the Duke, etc.). But I really wanted more Cecilia and Ned instead of totally switching to Alex and Charlotte WAH.

I do like Alex and Charlotte, of course. But it’s just that Cecilia and Ned were kind of a dream couple. I also felt like it was too long, as with the last one, and it was a bit harder to work through without C&N. It’s OK. I will read all of these no matter what haha :).

I think I loved this one more than the first, if that’s possible. So much wit and banter and humor. I devoured this book in 24hrs and found myself smiling through the majority of it.
I can’t wait to see what happens next in this world.

I think I enjoyed this second book slightly more than the first, though both were charming and fun. Alex and Charlotte had a bit more emotional and intellectual depth, probably because they had more fraught histories and struggled more with deciding what life they wanted to live. I enjoyed Charlotte’s identity exploration and her questioning of what she was raised to believe was her (stifling, stunted) destiny. Alex confronting his past was also well done. It’s still a light, fun book with a happy ending, but there’s emotional resonance there, too.
