I’m so in love with Alex O’Riley it is unreal - begging for a movie to be made because I am desperate to see who they cast!

I enjoyed the start of this book a bit more than the first one. This was another easy to read romantasy with a good dose of sarcasm, wit and silliness. I think this would also be qualified as a cozy fantasy.

I don’t feel like I ever thought the stakes were that high in this book, so I never really felt like anyone was in danger. Which I think pulls you out of the story a little bit. Also understanding ethical and moral line of characters in this series is a bit difficult. They’d hire assassins but they’d never actually assassinate each other. They are ladies and gentlemen because they only steal from the rich and give to the needy (themselves), but they steal from literally anyone. I’m also not convinced any of them are actually good at thieving. Other than pickpocketing we never really see any of them successfully steal anything.

“There was something so invigorating about her, and at the same time so reassuring. Charlotte was neither afraid of him nor seeking mere titillation. She made him feel safe enough to be himself—not the dread pirate, the impious rake. Just Alex, wanting her.” —Alex O'Riley

“Alex’s arms encircled her in return, providing a strength she knew she could trust. He was her big scary pirate, and she was safe with him.” —Charlotte Pettifer

Well, well, well, this was something. I'd venture to say that I liked this book more than the first. Not only because I already understand to its world building and getting attached to the plotline, but because I truly enjoyed the banter between Charlotte and Alex even from the very exact first chapter.

Compared to The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels, The League of Gentlewomen Witches had a considerably more swoon-worthy center relationship. My attention was taken by the romance, who then set my last remaining remnants of dignity on fire. I'm so thoroughly undone. This book has captured my heart in a messy way.

I also thought this book was hilariously funny, despite the fact that I haven't read enough classics to grasp its jokes. In addition, I think that India Holton's captivating prose is the best aspect of both this book and the series. Charlotte's transformation from a decorous woman who constantly looked to literary heroines for behavioral cues to a more self-assured woman who eventually pursues her goals was made possible by her sarcastic sense of humor in repurposing classics.

Also, since this novel also gives us a glimpse of Daniel Bixby and Miss Dearlove banter, I found myself growing fond of them. I'm eager to see what further the author will reveal about this series. So, yes, I'll go straight to read The Secret Service of Tea and Treason after this💥🏃🏻‍♀️

She does it again. I absolutely adore India Holton’s writing. When she brilliantly dropped that Mary Oliver Wild Geese reference…ahhhhh!!!!

“It is a truth seldom acknowledged that a single woman in possession of a good fortune is not especially in want of a husband.”
