I did not want to love this book, but here I am recommending it to everyone. It appears to be basic contemporary fiction, but the characters are deep and rich and intertwined in fun and interesting ways. The dialogue really stands out for me - the witty banter is believable and I adore the way Espach keeps conversations moving and keeps feeding the reader information without constantly writing "he said" or "she said", it makes scenes so seamless and easy to fly through. This is as much a love story as it is a coming-of-age for almost all of the characters; the chemistry between our lovebirds is palpable and Phoebe is a fantastic narrator; frank, unflinching, and willing to face her flaws head-on. This feels rare in that it has mass appeal for a more literary leaning crowd and a more casual reader, and I would have happily read 100 more pages.
Was just a little slow to get into but I did end up getting invested and enjoying how everything wrapped up

Eine wirklich unterhaltsame Lektüre, die viel Spaß gemacht hat. Einige Twists waren tatsächlich überraschend, andere hingegen recht hervorsehbar. Am Ende haben vor allem die verschiedenen Charaktere überzeugt - obwohl irgendwie alle ein bisschen problematisch waren, waren doch auch alle sehr liebenswürdig. Hinter der Fassade lauerte selbst bei den nervigen Personen noch etwas sympathisches.

almost exactly what I look for in a romcom which is equal parts rom and com. it takes a lot for me to laugh out loud at a book but i found myself doing so several times throughout. im impressed at how fleshed out the side characters felt. surpassed my expectations bc I almost stopped reading at the mention of the pandemic but im glad I stuck around, even if some bits were frustrating. strong 4.5
