Two stars is probably a totally unfair rating, because I did enjoy this book. However, I just finished reading Slade and I found that book wildly addictive and fun, and I liked the characters, but I still only gave it three stars because the plot was less than it could have been. Valiant was fine, but definitely not as good as the previous two for me. I did not understand why Valiant and Tammy were an item. I didn't understand their connection outside of a chemical one, and it felt very interchangeable to me. I could see Valiant claiming just about any human woman, and Tammy definitely I felt could fall for any new species. It is problematic when as a reader I don't see what connects my two love interests. On top of all of that, I thought Tammy was stupid. Which is totally harsh, but something I frequently thought while reading. I like the series because it is fluffy escapist fun and I'm hoping I will like the next one better.

Amazing! Simply delicious! Book 3 of the New Species Series is an unexpected treat that leaves readers wanting more. Valiant and Tammy are a dynamic duo that ignite off the pages. Dohner is a master craftswoman, effortlessly weaving truly believable characters and an riveting plot.

In this installment of the New Species series, readers reunite with Valiant, the brutally savage new species member homed in the wild zone at Reservation. His character is quite memorable from his introduction in Book 2 when he meets Trisha, Slade’s mate. His savage appearance, and nearly feral mannerisms make him scary, and truly unforgettable. Known for his hatred towards humans, and preferred seclusion, it certainly seems that he would never have a story—but boy does he ever!

The story begins with Tammy Shasta, who finds herself in the fate a devastatingly large and scary Valiant while catering on Reservation for her job. Tammy is fearful of Valiant at first, not knowing what to expect of his scary reaction to her accidentally wondering into his property. Things take an abrupt turn once Valiant gets a good whiff of Tammy, however, and Tammy soon finds that Valiant wants to possess her, and not harm her.

Readers are left bereft when Tammy escapes Valiant, not knowing how their story will end. Thankfully only a short time passes and their paths cross again when Tammy finds herself in trouble with anti-new species haters. Valiant is right there to play hero, however, and once he has Tammy in his arms again, he doesn't let her go.

The story gets juicier with each chapter. After things settle, and you think the crescendo is done and hurtled, unexpected circumstances arise again, and Tammy is captured by Mercile employees. Although her capture is unexpected, readers will be happy when Valiant comes to save the day. Because of her capture, Justice and all the new species learn that their struggle with Mercile entirely over, but just begun.

For the third book in this series, I was pleasantly surprised by how truly enjoyable it was. I would have to say that this book is the best thus far. It had good action and was evenly paced. Both Tammy and Valiant are endearing characters, with truly genuine qualities that have readers wanting to know their fate. Readers will find themselves completely satisfied with their story.

The only aspect to the book that left me wanting more was the character 927. I really wanted to know what name he ended up picking, and if he will be incorporated into a later species story. I really enjoyed learning him as a character. Though his portion in the book was short, it was very impactful. His brief incorporation in the book truly outlines what happened to species before, during, and after freedom, bestowing a quick dash of the harsh reality new species had to endure.

This book is a great read. You do not have to read all the books in order, but can start with any book in the new species series. I find it enjoyable to read all the way through, however, and am doing so again now. : )

Valiant & Tammy's story

After reading this a second time I think I enjoyed it more. I thought Valiant was really possessive. I thought his relationship with Tammy was really funny. I really enjoyed this book and my rating remains the same.

3.25-3.5 stars. This was a pretty good book. This was the first book I have read from this series and I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I like Laurann Dohner's writing style. I did not start with the first book, but I enjoyed this book so I will go back and read the first two books I skipped. The story and the world building was interesting and unlike any I had read before. I liked the idea of the New Species and the characters had depth. Valiant was very sweet and I liked Tammy. Overall, I enjoyed the book and am looking forward to reading the rest in this series!

I'm a little conflicted on my stars. I enjoy the universe and the plight of Species. However, I do NOT enjoy the jarring lack of proofreading. Honestly, syntax matters. I should not have to fill in the missing words on my own! Maybe in fanfiction, but not in a published book.

At any rate, the story brings forward the overall story, I like the main characters, even though I got a bit tired of "OMG he's so big / she's so tiny". Also, I've just read many enough of these now to get that feeling when there is a lull that this is getting to rosy, there will be something bad happening in 3-2-1... I had no surprises in the plot.

So yeah, story was cute, it needs proofreading and I still enjoy the universe, but I don't know if I will read the next book, which I'm guessing involves a certain redhead.
