Where Rainbows End

Cecelia Ahern

3.76 AVERAGE

This is the first book by Cecelia Ahern that I really liked reading. I thought the story would be pretty predictable but it really wasn't. If I had to recommend a book by Cecelia I think this would be it!

Patience is a virtue with this book. Though I adore the characters and I loved the story, I wish the happy ever after would have happened a bit quicker than nearly 50 years after the beginning and on the last page.

Apart from this, I was intrigued by the way the entire book was written out only in letters, emails and instant messaging. though it was frustrating at times when I just wanted more information, it was a different style that I honestly enjoyed.

I would definitely recommend this book, but if you're a bit impatient, I'd just watch the movie instead. I'm usually one to insist that books are always better than the movies, in this case, I do admit I prefer the film but still love the book.

I am not going to rate because I haven't even finished.
but honestly? I hate the writing style.
there is SO much missing pieces and parts due to the way the writer chose to present this story.
I really liked it and I thought it was promising, but the writing ruined it.

maybe later on I'll pick it up again and give it another try, or just watch the movie.

Easy to read. Predictable ending, but enjoyable. Explore love

ugh.
I enjoyed the unique way this book was written, as a collection of emails, letters, & instant messages. I found I liked the characters, and the story. I was happy it ended the way it did...but the timing was ridiculous. I felt the challenges to Rosie and Alex's friendship were drawn out way too long, and when you ultimately read the ending, it lost its reward for me. I just wanted to finish it, instead of relishing in the last moments of the story.

Thanks to Hachette Books via Netgalley for the free review copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

So, let me start off by saying I liked this book, I really did. Unfortunately, I expected to love it, so I was a bit let down by the fact that I didn't.

In the end, it was just an okay read for me.

First of all, I didn't really love the format. Sometimes it was a bit confusing. Other times I felt like I wasn't getting enough information. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the whole letter writing/card sending/email thing didn't work for me. I would have preferred a more traditional style of story telling in this case, because although we get a decent glimpse inside Rosie's brain, she's the only one I felt any attachment to. Rosie often frustrated me to the extreme, so it would have been nice to feel some connection to Alex, or Ruby, or any of the other characters in the book, just to give me a break from the constant Rosie-ness of it all.

Aside from the lack of connection to the characters, I also felt the book dragged on too long. Seriously, by the time it's all said and done, we're talking about forty some odd years of letter writing! I wanted to scream, "Come on, Rosie and Alex! Get your crap together and figure it out already!" I guess I was losing patience, you could say.

However, there were some extremely funny moments! The one that comes to mind is when Rosie meets some thugish men at a pub. I haven't seen the movie version yet, but I'm crossing my fingers that this is one incident that gets translated to the big screen, because it had me in stitches!

All in all, I am glad to have read this book, and I would like to read more by this author. I also have big hopes for the movie version, because, hello? Sam Claflin, anyone?

My rating: 3.5 stars

This was one of those books where you weren't in control of when you stopped reading, the book was. The writing style chosen by Cecelia Ahern is done beautifully.

I'm glad it came to the resolution that it did, but I admit I was a little disengaged by then. Perhaps one too many twists and turns.

Overall an excellent page-turner, summer read.
