Where Rainbows End

A cute, fun read. Nothing spectacular, but I enjoyed it. The constant non-alignment of the stars for Alex and Rosie was really frustrating, but I did like the format. It was interesting getting a full story through letters, e-mails, and instant messages between characters. You were still able to get to know the characters (Rosie in particular), but at the same time there was a distance between them. I can't say I loved the very end when the perspective switched after the last letter, but the book was a fun, easy read.

Beautiful and frustrating. A very different way of telling a story I love it. And I would have cry if it was a cryer.

Very mixed emotions about this… I read this because I love the movie and I know the point of this story is two people that keep missing each other, but they keep missing each other one too many times to keep my attention. It was too slow.

However, I LOVE the way this is written—you don’t ever read a story, just Rosie & Alex’s letters/emails/notes to each other.

This book was sort of exhausting. The whole story is told through letters, cards, instant messaging, etc which means that characters are constantly relating things in past tense and there's no action. For me, it made it difficult to be overly invested in the characters and their world. When I did feel emotion, it was frustration that the characters kept making the same mistakes. For hundreds of pages. And approximately fifty years of their lives. Until they FINALLY don't make a mistake and the book just fades to dark with a "happily ever after" type gimmick.

Okay, I just talked myself into changing my rating to 1 star.

Do not be fooled by how tiny this book looks, it’s nearly 500 pages! But this was an interesting read because it was composed entirely of emails/letters/notes/chat messages between all of the characters. This book was one of the funniest/wittiest ones I’ve ever read, full of hilarious quips and jabs and teases I found myself laughing almost every page. Did it need to be 500 pages—absolutely not. There was a lot of filler that wasn’t necessary but did provide some form of humor entertainment. This was the longest game of will they/won’t they and I struggle with that type of trope. Also, yes this book was written in the early 2000s and you can tell with the subtle racism bits in there. Didn’t appreciate that. Other than that and the length, this book was sweet to read and I’ll probably watch the movie now too!

happiness..does it really exist? or is it just an ilusion we're after..we all had vague moments of it and we think that, we could achieve it completly full time on ,or at least close to that..but has anyone ever been completely and truely happy? I do know people that are completely and truelu UNhappy, but happy? naah
it is a difficult book to read considering the way it was written in,it's not very flattering to not read about emotions ,descriptions and feelings..it's like peeping into people's lives without their permission..

One word - Ugh.
The only reason I'm giving it even 2 stars is cause I enjoyed reading the initial few chapters and thought it would be a cute, fun story. But 300 pages down, I started to realize that it's not going to be as I expected it to be.
But I stuck till the end cause I just needed to know what happens and no, I didn't want to just peek into the last chapter (which I actually should have).

Half the time I was hanging out loud which hardly ever happens to me with books and the other half I was sobbing - which I think of as a good thing haha. The beginning goes by so quickly but it does get a bit slow in the latter part of the middle because there’s so much drama that there’s kind of a pattern that you know something is going to go wrong and they won’t be together and there’s a missed chance. The moments that Alex and Rosie do have together are so cute I swooned a lot throughout the novel. And the ending is happy, as befits this type of book :)
