This is classic Maigret, and I really enjoyed it.

Simenon is a fantastic writer whose style made it impossible to put the book down unless some outside thing caused me to. While these types of books don't tend to be my vibe, I find myself craving more of Maigret's adventures. Would be 5 if I found the plot more compelling.

Another well plotted mystery in this series set in France and written in the 1930s. Maigret's character is becoming more fleshed out with each book and I enjoyed the audio narration by Gareth Armstrong.

It's been awhile since I've listened t a good suspense crime story. Now I didn't know this was apart of a big series! I was only sent 3 audiobooks because I won them in a giveaway from Crime Classics on Twitter from the UK. But I did love this one. I love the all the characters, the time period, how the scenes or people are described, & mainly the narrator. I always find that an audiobook can only be worth wild unless the narrator does aamazing job with the voices. An he did. :)
I do plan to listen to the other two audiobooks before the year ends. And hopefully get hold of the beginning of the series later this year or next year. :)

Bereits während der Lektüre meines ersten Maigrets war mir klar, dass mir dieser Kommissar gefällt. Doch wie sehr, wurde mir erst bewusst, als ich "Maigret kämpft um den Kopf eines Mannes" las. Eigentlich wollte ich ja den zweiten Teil der Reihe in Angriff nehmen, aber den hat die Bibliothek leider nicht im Sortiment. Also griff ich einfach zum nächsten Titel der chronologischen Reihenfolge, der dort erhältlich ist. Da mir dieser jedoch so gefallen hat, mache ich mir nun Sorgen, dass alle weiteren Maigret-Romane in seinem Schatten stehen werden.
War ich bereits bei meinem ersten Maigret etwas verwirrt, so war dieser Band in jeder Hinsicht noch viel kurioser. Er beginnt nämlich mit einem Ausbruch aus dem Gefängnis - organisiert von keinem Geringeren als Maigret selbst! Da musste ich gleich auf den ersten Seiten leer schlucken (nein, ich hatte den Rückentext extra nicht gelesen!).
Dann erfahren wir Schritt für Schritt, was Maigret zu diesem Schritt bewogen hat. Bewegend fand ich dabei, dass wir feststellen, dass auch der Held dieser Reihe nicht unfehlbar ist. Aber er steht dafür gerade, wenn es sein muss, auch mit seiner Karriere. Dies machte mir diesen sanften Hünen von Kommissar nur noch sympathischer und viel zu schnell neigte sich das Buch dem Ende zu.
Auch hier war ich am Ende wieder total überrascht, weil ich aus den Geschehnissen selber gar nicht wirklich klug geworden bin. Ob Simenon seine Romane extra so schreibt? Vielleicht habe ich noch nicht genug seiner Bücher gelesen, um aus diesen Fragmenten wirklich etwas herauspicken zu können. Da ich aber sicherlich noch mehr Simenon lesen werde, hoffe ich, mir diese Fähigkeit irgendwann aneignen zu können.
Ein eindrücklicher Krimi, wundervoll erzählt von einem talentierten Wortakrobaten und ausgestattet mit einem Kommissar, der sich auf seine ganz eigene Art und Weise durch das herbstliche Paris schlägt.

Another enjoyable adventure with Inspector Maigret, I didn't know where this one was going except that the guilty party was innocent.
Really enjoyed seeing how it reached the conclusion. I find Maigret a very enjoyable character. These books are so far short and sweet but enjoyable for that. Though I wouldn't mind some a bit longer.
Thoroughly enjoying the reads so far. I think I will read one more then maybe dip in and out of the series through the year. I don't want to read too many too quickly and get them all jumbled but the beauty is I can re-read them all again.

Maigret had previously caught a murderer who is set to be executed, however, he convinces the police to let the man escape so that Maigret can reinvestigate the crime. things go wrong pretty quickly.
the set-up is interesting, but I found that a lot of this story had to be told as a summary after the fact, rather than being revealed along the way. I also felt that in previous books, Simenon's economical writing managed to convey a depth of psychological insight that in this book was, again, relayed by Maigret after the fact instead.
