adventurous challenging funny medium-paced

structured around a sense of familiarity and nostalgia that i just could not tap into, which rendered this flat and, at times, hard to follow. i appreciated the informative tidbits throughout, but my whole reading experience consisted of, “i don’t think i am the intended audience,” and, “huh?”

thought this was an interesting study on queerness through the lens of gay bars, though i think i personally would have preferred more history and less memoir. nonetheless i enjoyed this quite a bit

An interesting blend of history and personal narrative of the authors experience growing in and with Gay Bars. The history piece was interesting - and this book is well written and sexy, perverse and informative. I loved the opportunity to connect in a new way to the community in which I have existed for so long.

spent about half of this book not sure how i felt about it, but i ended up loving it. it’s so rich in queer knowledge & it’s poignantly written, but i don’t like the way lin talked about transpeople & i feel like he failed to properly acknowledge how people of color (especially black women) influenced gay culture & rights.
