I received a copy of this book from Net Galley for my honest review.

Honestly I was blown away by the writing in this book. Nalini Singh made the characters so believable and real I was rooting the whole time for Mr. Bishop.

Ms.Baird is a very shy, scared young woman. She is overcoming such a traumatic past that she doesn't even trust her own shadow without having a panic attack. She fights through the daily struggles of just interacting at work. Mr. Bishop comes in to clean house in her company and set it up for success. She accidentally runs into him one night after work and he invites her out to supper to pick her brain. She of course is terrified through this whole ordeal. Mr. Bishop see's that she is scared so of course being the great alpha he is wants to help her through it. Needless to say without spoiling it they work together a lot.

This book does skip months at some points it will say two months later which makes sense because he is trying to take it so slow with her so she trusts him enough to let him in. Once you hear her story you understand why she is so scared. Its so wonderful how patient he is, for once I enjoyed the male character much more than the female.

Fantastic book! highly recommend!

Great build-up, Gabriel knows what he wants and is really really patient with Charlotte. And Charlie is a badass in all her mousiness.

I did not enjoy this. I was excited to try this author for the first time, but this may have been the wrong place to start. The FMC is grappling with a trauma, but this is also a workplace romance with a power imbalance that isn't adequately addressed imo. I'm not big on angsty romances so maybe this was always going to be a no for me.

What an endearing story. Poor Charlotte is still reeling from a truly horrific past that’s left her guarded and socially awkward. She clothes herself in drab colors and shapeless dresses in an effort make herself invisible. The meek yet extremely intelligent woman is intimidated when she meets Gabriel, a former rugby superstar turned business guru. He’s Charlotte’s new boss since he just purchased the company for which she works in an effort the turn around the fledgling company. He goes on a firing rampage and Charlotte nicknames him T-Rex. Although she’s clearly painfully shy, T-Rex sets his sights on Charlotte and he won’t be deterred from his pursuit so he sets traps for the little mouse.

This book was a surprise on many levels. There is a legitimate reason for Charlotte’s timidity and it is handled with great sensitivity. Charlotte’s transformation doesn’t happen overnight. If you’re expecting her to walk into a boutique as Charlotte mouse and waltz out with a complete wardrobe makeover and personality transfiguration an hour later then this isn’t the book for you. However, the biggest surprise was Gabriel. Oh, how I loved Gabriel! The man had infinite patience as he wooed Charlotte. Sexy, protective, determined, intuitive, sweet, devoted, dirty talker… The list goes on and on. He’s pretty much the perfect package.

I’ll admit at times I felt on the verge of screaming because I wanted Charlotte to get it together already! I needed Gabriel’s patience! It seemed like one step forward, two steps back in her relationship with Gabriel and I wanted the pacing to pick up in places. Although the way it’s written is probably more true to life, I wanted just a smidge of fantasy. Still, Charlotte is definitely a fighter and a heroine you can root for.

This is a wonderfully refreshing story that I highly recommend.
