3.5 stars, rounded up because the end had a good payoff. There was a ton of jumping around in both the timeline and location, and I think this book suffered a bit for it. I'm glad I had read other High Republic books before this because it would have been even more confusing. At least I knew who Pan Eyta was (and why he was so mad at Lourna), and was interested to finally find out what happened to Asgar Ro and how Marchion came to power.
The performance is excellent, as it has been with all the Star Wars audio dramas. And the story did give Lourna some depth. She's not 100% evil baddie for evil's sake - she has been through some crap.
Looking forward to the next chunk of the High Republic.

I honestly never know what to expect from the play script books in the High Republic Series, but this one straight up slapped. The characters are incredible to follow, the developments are never what you expect, and the details to every scene are able to help you imagine what’s going on in a way more insightful than normal novels. Just a super fun and fast read that you don’t want to put down. And for everyone saying they now love Lourna or are rooting for her… you might need to ask yourself some moral reflection questions because YIKES.
