This is the first book in a while I've had to stop at the end, sit in silence and really digest.

I am in love with the way Max Porter wrote this. The words literally jumped around the page to reflect Dead Papa Toothwort's inner thoughts and listenings. You may know him as The Green Man.

This book was disgusting, bizarre, wonderful, magical, insane and I loved every second. It centres around a young boy called Lanny who is fantastic and weird, his life full of the whimsy he invents through art, nature and curiosity.

I won't say much more, it's a hard one to explain without giving too much away, but I absolutely loved it.

This was… wow. It starts off as a love letter to an English village and then becomes so much more. It’s hard to describe this book without spoiling it. I loved Pete and Lanny making art together. I loved all the snippets of dialogue from the villagers throughout - having recently moved to a small close knit English village I could hear it all perfectly. Some of the sub plots and characterisations were great. The climax sequence was really interesting but the ending felt a bit flat - I wish they’d stuck with what they were preparing you for, almost? Even if that was objectively worse. But yeah, it was a perfect book for this time of year, all kinds of creepy and I wasn’t expecting it to be!

I love Max Porter. His writing style is one that often doesn't do it for me, but something about the way he writes often leaves me thinking about his books Long after I finish reading them.
I loved the gossip sections, and the short character segments for narration. The scrambly way they were structured made me sort of slowly build up my own piecemeal image of the characters, and changing that image when new gossip or information came up was an interesting way to challenge some of my own preconceptions.
A part of me wants to know MORE on the lore of dead Papa toothwort, but I guess that's not really the point, and if I had been told more I probably wouldn't still be thinking about the story!
