This book was really difficult at times, but totally worth it. It really gives an inside look into McCurdy's life, but also hints to other problems in the entertainment industry. She does an excellent job writing from the perspective of a child while making it incredibly clear for the adult reader to understand the full situation. Definitely should check the trigger warnings because there are a lot. Not an easy book if you struggle with eating disorders and/or disordered eating. I would recommend to people just with the asterisks of being aware that there are very heavy topics written about in detail.

I can't really think of much to say about this that the book doesn't say itself.
I feel proud of someone I'll never meet.

That was terribly disturbing while being engaging.
I am also glad her mother died because I actually think the mother would have ended up killing her.

This book is amazing, it’s an honest and painful look into her life. It’s an actual reflection of long long it takes to unlearn all the harmful patterns we learned as kids, especially from parents who we often see as perfect when they are far from it. I think the way it was written was masterfully done. She wrote with a childlike naïveté when she wrote about her childhood, and the voice matured as she did, throughout her life and throughout the realisations she went through.

The honesty and truth within this book is brutal. Hearing the trauma and abuse that Ms. McCurdy had to endure from such an early age is heartbreaking, but the joy I felt listening to her share her victories and her progress was like hearing it from my own family. Such a genuine writer, completely honest with her experiences and trauma.
