Genuinely enjoyed this book for its heart and open reflection on such difficult topics. Experiencing mental health issues, especially ED from such a young age changes the way you see your self and the people around you in deeply painful ways. McCurdy does an incredible job of discussing her illness and recovery with so much honesty and tenderness, I found it to be very moving and ultimately hopeful.

Her mother has cancer and both of them struggle with eating disorders throughout the book, be prepared for graphic descriptions of bulimic and anorexic behaviors/symptoms. Overall a very tender reflection on how these experiences shaped the author, but it can definitely be triggering.

I really, really enjoyed this read. I listened to it as an audiobook—which I highly recommend—and loved it so much I finished it in a day. Jennette McCurdy narrative prose is engaging, and she explores complicated family dynamics in a beautiful way. She allows space for nuance and portrays the road to recovery and healing from various forms of trauma in a compelling and accurate way.
