Well. I just finished it and I think it’ll be one that I process better over time. The first third dragged a bit for me. I didn’t really relate to Claude or her situation. I felt for her but didn’t connect with her character much. Once she travels to the island and starts connecting with its residents, I felt she opened up to me and them.
The relationship with Miah was special. I loved them together and rooted for them. I liked the ending not spelling out any details of their futures but leaving it for the reader to be hopeful.
I didn’t cry through this one like I expected I would. I think it’s bc I never truly connected to any of the characters deeply. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy them I just felt a bit distant from their feelings and thoughts.
The setting of the island was mysterious and full of adventures. I loved exploring the area with Miah and Claude as they grew familiar through his sharing the island with her.

i loved all the bright places, so i expected to like this book too. well, this has been a huge disappointment. i finished the book and i still love jennifer, but this book is just a massive no no. it was just boring, the characters were bland and there was nothing special to make me like it. sorry, but it’s a 1.5 stars

The storytelling and the setting is interesting, the main character Claudine however was very unlikable for me. I found her so annoying! I did really like the ending, it was realistic and bittersweet.
That said: i suppose i can see the appeal of this book for readers, but i found all the s*x talk and the very explicit s*x scenes excessive. It was boring and to me and i was just waiting for some actual action to happen. But no. More s*x. Is this the only thing teenagers care about?? Maybe. Honestly, i probably wouldn’t know since im asexual. So maybe that explains the positive reviews.?
