Quidditch meets The Hunger Games in this incredible take on magic and dragons in a modern world. Lana Torres has always loved dragons and the sport they compete in alongside their riders: Blazewrath. So when the chance to compete for Team Puerto Rico as their runner (the only non-dragon-bonded member of the team) is offered up, she jumps on the chance. But the circumstances that landed her there (an attack on a famous wand shop) are more than a little suspicious. And with the Sire--a dragon turned human terrorist--threatening to burn the world if the games aren't stopped, her role in Blazewrath grows increasingly complicated. Especially when she learns the contract she signed hides deadly secrets.

This is the book I've been wanting without even realizing it. I love stories that explore magic and modern technology and Blazewrath Games does maybe the best job of it I've ever seen. I love that witches co-exist alongside Regular humans and dragons. I loved the twists and turns (though I did see some coming). I loved the voice. I do think parts of the plot of this story could've been drawn out into a series really successfully, but I'm kind of hoping Oritz may have plans to continue this on as a series regardless. There is certainly a lot of set up for one otherwise. Blazewrath Games is YA fantasy at its best.

A HUGE thanks to NetGalley, Amparo Ortiz, and Page Street Publishing for sending me an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own.

I loved this book so freaking much. I rooted so hard for Lana from the beginning and I loved how intelligent and observant she was. Lana was a fantastic MC, I wanted to know how her story wrapped up so badly. Team Puerto Rico had me hooked as soon as they were introduced and I loved the entire premise.

THE DRAGONS. Oh my gosh, it was so cool to see how they all came to their riders and how they bonded. It was awesome to see all the different species and I would honestly love to hear more from this world.

The world-building was amazing and I loved as it was slowly expanded. The magic users and their wand and power system was also super unique and such a cool addition to this world. I love that magic was in such an abundance.

I loved this book and can't wait to buy myself a physical copy!

This book has LGBT representation, as well as diverse cultural representation.
Starting out light hearted, it focused on a girl reaching towards her dreams to play Blazewrath among the dragons she loves so dearly. Imagine a light hearted hunger games, throw in some Harry Potter, and more dragons. I can't say much without spoiling it but, it felt very refreshing, and I was super emotional when it ended. I also loved the lore exerpts at the beginning of each chapter.

PUERTO RICO AND DRAGONS!!!!

I've been waiting for this book since I heard about it and I'm so happy it's out in the world! Blazewrath Games is unputdownable, full of magic and wonderfully diverse characters. It's action packet, full of intrigue, and keeps you reading long past your bedtime.

As a Puerto Rican, I loved seeing actual Puerto Rican characters allowed to be Puerto Rican on page. So many moments in this story highlight things there unique and important to Puerto Ricans--the flag, the guiros, always being late. You can tell this is ownvoices because of all the details throughout the novel.

This novel keeps you guessing, keeps you trying to figure out what comes next, what's really going on. I can honestly say it caught me off guard several times because I did not see twists coming. But ultimately, it's a story about found family, and it's beautifully done.
