This book must’ve been working with a required word count with how redundant and bloated this story was. If it wasn’t rehashing the same things over and over, it was trying to jam in as many similes and metaphors as possible and I’m surprised I found it in myself to finish it.

As someone who’s relatively neutral about a billionaire romance, this one did not work for me. Rowan was genuinely horrible. He slashed his employees health care, was a big part in keeping wages low, spoke to people ANY kindve way, and forced long hours. I understand he ‘turned things around’ (which did he???? He just said some ideas about raising wages and didn’t even account for a lot of the other weird stuff he was up to) at the end but YIKES. I couldn’t feel any sympathy towards him throughout the entire book with how he literally ruined everyone’s lives and didn’t see it as a problem until Zahra. Which even that feels like a bit of a stretch. His character felt so lifeless and devoid of any substance throughout the book. It felt like ready about an NPc with 3 lines and I felt nothing.

Speaking of Zahra, she is the embodiment of a Manic Pixie and I hated having to sit with her this entire book. (This is true for both of them but she gets a little extra) She has the professionalism of a walnut and it’s so hard to imagine ANYONE speaking/living this way. Even her stunt with Rowan’s dad at the end just felt so unnecessary. Don’t get me wrong, I understand he’s a man who didn’t handle his grief well and took it out on his children but that’s really none of your business.. She just felt like such a flat character and I got so tired of hearing characters say she’s “so nice and kind and sunshine” because we didn’t see that.

Also, something needs to be said about anytime anything emotional occurred they proceeded to jump each other’s bones. At one point, Rowan lays out his heart and his childhood trauma and Zahra is only thinking about turning him on………… now….

“I want to kiss Rowan until his lips are swollen and the sad look in his eyes is replaced by lust. Part of me wants to go back in time and protect that little boy who wanted nothing more than to dream and draw and be who he was without being attacked for it.”

One of those sentences is not like the other…. 💀 Also, his whole deal was that he just wanted to draw but that’s only relevant for like 1/4 of the book?

There’s too much to say. I knew going into it that it was the worst rated of the 3 books, but I wanted to give it a try so I was prepared for the sequel but I think this ruined the series for me.

Can’t wait to read Declan’s book

An emotionally unavailable man and a too emotionally available woman. It has been told before but better than this.

The last time I attended a funeral, I ended up with a broken arm. The story made headlines after I threw myself into my mother's open grave.
From here I knew it was going to be a great book, even though I was afraid it would turn into a disaster. Thank God, IT DIDN’T!

Rowan Kane got me. I kicked my feet and giggled into my pillow at 3 am because of him. He's just a fictional character, he’s just a fictional character…

Rowan: That was highly inappropriate.
Me: I think your phone has been hacked.
Rowan: I can assure you it hasn't, but I can't say the same about my brain. I tend to do stupid things around you.

Me: I’m in line for the Spooky Castle ride.
Rowan: A line?
Me: Allow me to educate you. A line is a thing that patient people wait in when they can't afford to purchase the quick skip passes your company sells for the price of a liver.
Rowan: If someone offers you a liver for two hundred dollars, run.

*muffled screaming*

”Go back to the last slide.” Rowan’s voice hits me like a bucket of ice water.
“Oh, it's nothing important. Just a mock-up. And you have a meeting now anyway.”
His nostrils flare. “I wasn't asking.”
Of course you weren’t. That requires the kind of manners you’re severely lacking.
His jaw ticks. “Now, Ms. Gulian.”

YES SIR!

I'm so weak for him omg. Why was this book so f good? Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I've always appreciated a book for how it made me feel
