It was a bit slow to start but once I got into it I couldn't put it down.
Amors Towles writing is beautiful and his characters really come to life.

While I absolutely loved A Gentleman in Moscow, I honestly couldn't wait for this book to be over. The writing style was enjoyable but the story was just not nearly as compelling. I couldn't invest in the characters and, at the end of the day, I would have gladly skipped this one.

Better than A Gentleman in Moscow for me (hot take?). Very female main character written by a man. But I loved this world.

A stylish period piece about identity, truth and knowing yourself. Katey Kontent and Eve Ross are young women swimming in a secretarial pool at a Manhattan law firm in 1938. Katey is from Brighton Beach and Eve from Iowa. Both are trying to make it in the big city when, on New Years Eve, Tinker Grey happens upon them in a bar. It is instantly obvious that Tinker is old money, Ivy-educated aristocracy. The girls strike up a friendship that leads them around Manhattan, to glitzy parties on Long Island and into a whole new world. As the plot broadens, it become apparent that not all is as it appears. The story is not a page turner, but does great justice to its setting. The conversation sparkles and 21 Club is as glamorous as you could have imagined.

Trademark Amor turns of phrase and quotable quotes. 4.3.

Few modern authors are able to transport a reader like Amor Towles. His descriptions are vibrant and detailed, and his syntax is eloquent and poetic. I first read his second book, A Gentleman In Moscow a few months ago and didn’t want it to end. Luckily I was equally delighted by his debut novel, Rules of Civility. I cannot wait to read whatever this amazing talent puts out next.

There have only been a handful of times when I've finished a book that I want to immediately turn back to page 1 and start all over again -- this was one of those times. Towels writing is so beautiful it makes me want to savor every sentence.
