This book made me so nostalgic for New York!!!! I felt transported each time I listened. Thank you Helen for the rec.
“In our twenties, when there is still so much time ahead of us, time that seems ample for a hundred indecisions, for a hundred visions and revisions—we draw a card, and we must decide right then and there whether to keep that card and discard the next, or discard the first card and keep the second. And before we know it, the deck has been played out and the decisions we have just made will shape our lives for decades to come.”

I love Amor Towles book but this book is my least favorite. I loved Tinker's character, but not Katie (the protagonist). Honestly it started off stronger than it ended.

This one was given to me by one of my neighbors who loves it. And it was really good.
Katey is in her 50s and happily married to Val when they go to an art exhibit. The exhibit is of pictures that were taken of people on the subway in the late 1930s and 40s. All kinds of people in all classes, none of whom knew they were being photographed. And she sees someone she used to know in the pictures. Good ol’ Tinker Grey. And it takes her back to the last night of 1937. She was 25 and had the world ahead of her and that’s when she and her friend Evelyn met Tink.
This book is mostly a reminiscence of the year 1938 in Manhattan. The chain of events, the fun times and the bad, the possibilities and choices that led her to where she landed. How on chance encounter can change your life and open you up to adventures and ideas that you never thought possible. It’s about a woman choosing her path and what she wants for her future. It was a great adventure, and a love story. A love of Manhattan, a love of men and a love of herself.
