Wow. This book came to me at the perfect moment. It exactly captures the sentimental nostalgia of Auld Lang Syne— how fitting that the story opens and closes on NYE, the same holiday I found myself reading this. All week l've been ripe with wistful looks back at my year, taking an account of who I was with and how we
spent our days. "Rules of Civility" is all that, wrapped in the most gorgeous writing. AND I recently returned home from a romantic visit to NYC— the city is a glitzy main character here!

Great fun and beautiful writing- a perfect companion to Gatsby. Didn't want it to end and never wanted to leave this set of characters and their New York of the 1930s. Fantastic heroine who stands up for herself and isn't afraid of a little fun or of being alone with a good book!

Not my favorite of Towles’s work and I feel like I’m coming away from it without having gained much. I can’t pinpoint why, but this one just didn’t resonate that strongly with me.
