this was a fun read. escaping into a romanticized old timey new york
city. the story didn’t really have a plot but that was okay because the writing was so good.

I absolutely loved this book. I fell in love with 1938 NewYork City and enjoyed the characters in this lovely story.

I thought this was well written and worth a fairly slow read to savor the writing, and to experience the characters' adventures fully. Kate is thoughtful and reserved. She understands that her "good" choices are related to loss and appears to rue some of her life choices but yet says she is comfortable with her life as it developed. Read it and see what you think...

Managed to squeeze one more book into 2024!
I adore Amor Towles writing, and I was thrilled to find this earlier book that I hadn’t read. As always, the writing is beautiful, creative and captivating. The story is a bit wandering, but it feels very real, like someone’s real life.

Overall, I thought this book was fine. I wasn’t terribly impressed but I also did not dislike it. Personally, I didn’t really feel that connected to any of the characters. The vibes are good if you like to romanticize that old timey NYC era. But there really is no plot whatsoever. I normally love that kind of book, but I think that the character development really didn’t do it for me. I can easily see how some other people would love this book because the writing style is very descriptive and engaging, but personally it just didn’t hit for me.
