Well crafted boredom. Maybe it would mean more to someone who had a connection with NYC. Never connected with any of the characters, though they were fleshed out well. I did appreciate everything he did with the setting of 1930s New York, but I still can't recommend it.

I had my reservations when I started this book (I always seem to when a male writes the female lead); I thought the heroine was shallow and that the plot would be dry…But I loved it! The plot and characters were a little reminiscent of The Bell Jar and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Would definitely recommend!

Beautifully written as always but not as engaging as some of the later works. Nice to see Eve’s backstory.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing was fresh, sometimes sad but often making me laugh as well. I do not know any woman like Katey in my life, which sort of makes it obvious that a man wrote this novel. I enjoyed her though and found her a nice subject to tag along with.

Wondering how I missed this book for so long. I would have finished it in one sitting but I kept rereading sentence after sentence because the language is so beautiful. I just wanted to savor this book!!

3 1/2 stars. The writing is very good. But the characters were not that interesting to me.

This was a fabulous book to read. I liked the author's style. I loved his pacing and language. The story was fascinating - how the characters and events were entwined and yet separate in so many ways. There was sadness and loss and love and laughter. It was neither a happy tale, nor a sad tale. It was bittersweet with an eye on reality - choices, sacrifices, and determination. This is a title I will recommend to others without reservation.
