The sweetest couple ever, how could you not root for them?! I liked how they avoided sugarcoating anything when it comes to mental illness. Really loved the development in the relationships between the couple and the mother/daughter.

I don't know if this inspired the book, but the premise of this story is kind of like the plot of Set It Up! And I liked the movie, so this kind of setup works for me.

What a beautiful surprise! I wasn't even in a reading slump, but I feel like this cured me of one. Was it perfect? No, there were some editing errors and a few weirdly inserted paragraphs. But I have never felt more SEEN by a book in my life.

My depression story and Ari's are remarkably similar. The symptoms, recognition, fears, and realities have all been felt by me. I related to her wholeheartedly.

AND RUSS!!! Holy shit, Russsss. I need to find more books with a sweet and reserved MMC who adores his partner ASAP. Bonus points if they are a single dad and/or do not have a six pack.

I liked this one as much as Ex Talk, if not more. I love the depression/therapy conversation (personal depression and mother with mental illness/depression) and some of the fun twists.

This one is pretty spicy in a couple parts šŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļø

Scenes like this are so relatable:
ā€œEventually, you deal with something for long enough that it becomes such an intrinsic part of you, and you canā€™t imagine yourself without it. You accept it, maybe because you think you deserve it but also because youā€™re scared that if you tried to change it, it wouldnā€™t work. It feels easier to live in that somber place because you donā€™t know who you are otherwise, and youā€™re worried about putting in all that effort without a guaranteed outcome.ā€ Ch 32

I also loved the Broadway references, the ā€œParent Trapā€ scheming with her boss, and the complex relationship with her mother. I appreciated how she grew as a character and could see good things, and that she didnā€™t have all bad memories.

ā€œIā€™m struck by how my brain kept all those good memories from me when there were plenty to choose from.ā€ Ch 33

There were some things I really liked about this story, namely Russell who is such a sweet MMC and a love books with a fat love interest.

However I didnā€™t enjoy
the third-act breakup, Ari was kind of a dick frankly even with her mental health issues. It was a very sweet romance but I could have done with more of them as a couple together.

So sweet and charming all while being set in the PNW. I really loved the plus size representation in this book. It was the first time I really connected with the fat character. And it was a man. Also good mental health rep that I think can apply to so many people. Even people without depression

I read a LOT of romance; itā€™s my main genre of choice. One thing thatā€™s annoyed me over the last few years is how the male protagonists are almost always described as having Adonis abs, cut jawlines, and overall god-like appearances. Even when I discovered stories about curvy girls (love them!), the men are still described as being ridiculously handsome.

I know books help us escape and vicariously live through the main characters, but sometimes I just want a romance with realistic men, you know?

Enter Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon.

I loved, loved, LOVED this book! There are a lot of reasons why, but a big component was that the male lead Russell was self-described as having a ā€œdad bodā€ and still being attractive and sexy. It was so dang refreshing to read about a woman who found her a man who was normal and yet still got her Happily Ever After.

The book also features dealing with ongoing mental illnesses, co-parenting, and horrible work environments that spur on the plot. Itā€™s just such a good book! Highly recommend to anyone who loves heartfelt HEA romances.

She moved on from her ex-fiance weirdly quickly. I couldn't get over the fact that she'd been engaged to someone else only a couple of weeks before  The premise for the third-act-breakup made no sense and was annoying- she was so hypocritical. Proposing at a wedding is always tacky.
