Hadn't read this since my teens, and it was a lot slower than I remembered. It also seemed like someone would break into song every few pages. :) It was nice to see where the films diverged, and how they interpreted the books. Anyway, it was a good reread. Definitely worth it.
Tolkien writes so well I become part of the story, I am watching it happen.
Read it for the second time and now I'm sure that this is the best fantasy book I have ever had the pleasure to read! Tolkien was a genius!

There's a reason these books are considered a must read! There are few books that can express the sense of adventure, friendship and camaraderie that these one did with quite the same success.
Det er berre å vedgå det med det same: Det kravde innsats å lesa denne omsetjinga. Men det var så veldig verd det. Eg kan med handa på hjartet seia at eg følte eg fekk meir ut av denne omsetjinga enn den bokmålske, eg levde meg meir inn i verda og fekk med meg fleire detaljar. Kanskje som eit resultat av at eg måtte konsentrera meg meir. Dette er ikkje ei omsetjing ein kan skumma.
Det store grepet som omsetjaren gjer, er å la forskjellige grupper snakka med ulike dialektar, i ulik stil. Det kan argumenterast for og imot, men for meg fungerte det veldig godt. Alt i alt: Ei stor språkleg oppleving på toppen av den litterære.

Finally finished the bloody thing. It went on about 4 chapters too long in my opinion - not even counting the earlier chapters or parts thereof that were about as interesting as the lists of begats in the Bible.
I get that many people love it, but it is just not my thing. I got far too lost in keeping up with who was who and who beyond the main ones was on what side.
But I can finally say I made it through.
Now where is my finisher's medal??
