Maybe my first official Goodreads read of this.

First e-read.

Started on vacation, Fellowship was wonderful and quite refreshing after multiple movie watchings over the last decade. Two Towers took a long time to read and Return of the King went a lot quicker than expected - also felt like it had less endings than normal.

Skipped the appendixes as usual.

Today this might only be a 4 star, but is grandfathered in as 5.

This illustrated hardback is a beautiful production of one of my favorite reads. I love the decoration on the page edges, and the illustrations! 32, to be precise (and contrary to other reviews I've seen, they get started right away - i.e. pages i and v in the intro, and pages 20, 26, and 48-ish).

The two included maps fold out to a really nice size; I love that I can take them out and peruse as desired, especially in the larger size--really helps me dive in (compared to other copies of the book, where the maps are bound in with the rest of the text).

Absolutely love it.
