Reviews with content warning for Infidelity - Maybe Someday

Aku baru tahu konsep jatuh cinta pada dua orang yang berbeda bisa serumit ini. Serius, berasa kayak dikasih kuliah soal teori cinta.

Hidup Sydney berubah drastis setelah mengetahui sahabat sekaligus teman seapartemennya ternyata tidur dengan pacarnya. Nggak cukup sampai di situ, Sydney yang nggak punya tempat tinggal akhirnya diizinkan tinggal di apartemen laki-laki yang selama ini selalu jadi alasan dia buat ke balkon dan dengar permainan gitarnya. Semuanya bertambah runyam ketika mendapati hubungannya dengan pemilik apartemen berkembang ke arah terlarang.

Dikarenakan banyak reviu yang bilang buku ini seperti melegalkan cheating, aku sempat ragu mau baca. Bahkan baca novelanya lebih dulu karena ya trope buku utamanya kurang sreg juga. Setelah nunda beberapa tahun akhirnya penasaran juga emang separah apa, sih?

Well, kalau dibilang parah banget enggak, cuma emang di beberapa bagian emang kepengin jedotin Ridge karena pemikirannya (dan keegoisan dia tbh) yang kadang2 enggak banget. Kalau ada yang disalahkan di sini, kayaknya aku bakal setuju orang itu Ridge karena apa ya, dia yang awalnya kukuh mau Sydney tetap tinggal di apartemen. Dan alasannya ini bagiku malah kayak manfaatin Sydney buat kepentingan Ridge (re: bikin lagu). Makanya bener tuh pertanyaan kenapa Ridge nggak langsung suruh Sydney pindah aja dari awal.

Soal alasan Ridge bisa mencintai dua orang di saat yang sama itu jadi ngingetin aku ke salah satu perkataan orang (entah pernah baca/dengar di mana) kalau kita nggak bisa mengontrol mau jatuh cinta sama siapa, bisa aja kita jatuh cinta ke orang lain ketika sudah memiliki pasangan. Sah-sah saja kok. Tinggal mau melanjutkan perasaan itu apa enggak, mau membiarkan diri buat mengembangkan cinta itu apa enggak. Dan aku masih nggak paham sampai baca Maybe Someday ini. Kayak apa ya, di satu sisi kasihan gitu mereka nahan banget buat nggak bisa ngungkapin rasa cintanya, tapi di sisi lain agak bertanya-tanya apa iya tindakan mereka udah bener?

Soal closure di akhir, hmm aku bahkan nggak tau harus ngomong apa. Terlalu speechless, terlalu "done" sama semua alasan yang dijabarin. Perasaan Ridge dan/atau Sydney terlalu rumit buat dipahami maksudnya.

Malah salfok sama Warren-Bridgette, gemec sekali mereka 😭

I liked this book a lot! I don’t like the cover with the guitar! But that’s neither here nor there! I enjoyed the characters! I was in tears! My dog passed away very recently and her name was Maggie so when that all happened you bet your ass I was crying!
I love Warren! Always will! I read maybe not before I read this one so I knew warrens story!!
I get why people didn’t finish this book because of the cheating but I don’t find it massively triggering even tho I’ve had personal experiences! If cheating is a trigger than this whole book is just not a book for you!
I am excited to read maybe now and finish this series!
I never thought I would read Colleen Hoover because her books just didn’t seem like something I would enjoy. Now I’ve tried her out I realise I do like her writing style!

Very emotional story in which the characters learn the hard lesson that what brings two people together may not be enough to keep them together. Other reviewers have commented that this book seemed to gloss over the cheating aspect, but there was a conversation relatively early in the book which led me to believe that all was not perfect between what some saw as a perfect couple. I especially liked the deaf representation with a character who was a songwriter. The explanations of his abilities and the way he related to others was very touching.

I feel very very mixed about this book. There were parts I enjoyed and then during a large chunk of the book I felt soooo uncomfortable. I think the ending was a good way to wrap it up.

I just hate cheating so much and there were so many times for them to avoid each other when they realized they were catching feelings. Also I know people have different views on what counts as cheating, but the fact that after the kiss they were just like "omg it's fine? it's really nbd, we'll just pretend it didn't happen and it's okay because we're having an honest convo about it, no biggie!"
