3.5 stars This was great! I wanted a pandemic/world ends (but not necessarily dystopian) book and this hit the spot! I loved that it was told similarly to how the Handmaids Tale is told (reflective log/account).
If you’re not into pandemic/world ends account by a teenager, you might find this a bit boring/dragging. I especially loved having the teen perspective. YA in this genre tends to be dystopian and while society does fall a bit this isn’t true dystopia.
The slowing was an interesting construct and I enjoyed that this book covers “what happened” and the effects but also covers the human drama element of what happens to people in a stressful situation and now despite everything life persists and some things (like teenage crushes) still occur despite it all. The book can be very sobering.

I just adored Julia and I think I may have a small crush on Seth.
A beautiful, poetic novel about the world changing, beyond what humans could understand, or even imagine. Both sad and hopeful, told from the eyes of a compelling narrator: 11-year-old Julia, who struggles through her "normal" pre-teen life against the backdrop of a rapidly changing, altogether unpredictable and unsure world.

A coming of age story at literally the worst time
Even in all of the panic I found this to a really good story.

Hard to put down, so it's a quick read. Haunting post apocalyptic coming of age story.
This book was not quite what I expected. It started off promising and the whole idea of the earth slowing is interesting, but the book ended up being so depressing, unsettling, and boring. Entirely bleak with no glimmer of hope. I also did not like that the story is supposed to be narrated by an eleven year old because Julia hardly ever comes off as being only eleven. I felt like most of the situations and conversations involving her friends were not very authentic or believable to how old they actually are. The author treats them as if they are in their late teens instead. It just really bothered me for some reason.
